The 13th International Andalusian and Ancient Music Festival, to be held from 18 to 25 December at Algiers Opera, will host 13 countries from Africa, Europe, America and Asia, said, Saturday, the festival’s commissioner Aissa Rahmouni.
Dedicated to the medieval period, the festival is held under the slogan: “Music and Peace, live together in peace”.
Senegal, Hungary and Sweden, participating for the first time in the festival, are invited alongside Spain, Turkey, Greece, Lebanon, Tunisia, Egypt, Iran, Argentina , Morocco and Afghanistan.
The invited countries will have to present programs of traditional music dating from the Middle Ages and executed with old instruments, fruit of the influences between the different Mediterranean cultures.
Mergers are also planned during this festival, like the Spanish troupe, “Zyriab Calo” with its flamenco-Andalusian program, as well as the duet between Lamia Ait Amara and the Greek Elena Vasileiadi.
Algeria is present at this festival with Hamdi Benani, Hamidou, P’tit Moh, and Nouri Koufi, and the ensembles, “El Gharnatia” of Koléa, “Nassim El Andalous” of Oran and the female troupe, “Lemma of Bechar”.
Four lectures on Andalusian music and its evolution through the centuries and masters-class dedicated to the instruments of this scholarly music, such as the Rbeb, the viola and the Arabic Oud, in particular, are also on the program of the festival.
