PM Ouyahia receives Pope Francis’ representative


Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia received Sunday, in Algiers, Cardinal Angelo Giovanni Becciu, head of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, representing Pope Francis, who is paying a visit to Algeria as part of the beatification ceremony of the religious Catholics that was held Saturday in Oran, said the Prime Minister’s Office in a communiqué.

The audience was attended by Mohamed Aissa, Minister of Religious Affairs.

The beatification ceremony of the former bishop of Oran Pierre Claverie (1938-1996) and his 18 Christian companions, who died in Algeria during the Black Decade, took place in the chapel of Notre Dame of Santa Cruz, in the mountains of Murdjadjo (Oran), reopened Friday after its restoration.
