The first session of Geneva round table on Western Sahara, initiated by UN Personal Envoy for Western Sahara, Horst Kohler, wrapped up late Wednesday afternoon.
In this aspect, Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel told UN Special Envoy for Western Sahara Horst Kohler that Algeria, participating in this Round Table as a neighboring and observer country, is committed to contribute to the good conduct of the round table on Western Sahara conflict.
“Messahel expressed to Kohler the commitment of Algeria, as a neighboring country to contribute to the good conduct of the round table in Geneva, aimed at relaunching the negotiation process between the two parties to the conflict, Morocco and Polisario Front”.
This meeting is the first of its kind in six years and is taking place in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2440, which called on the two parties to the conflict, Morocco and the Polisario Front, to resume negotiations “without preconditions and in good faith” with a view to reaching a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution that will allow the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara.
It is worth mentioning that nothing has been revealed on this first session that will be followed by another meeting on Thursday. A press conference will be hosted by the UN envoy.
