Minister of Culture, Azzeddine Mihoubi, said that the statue of Ottoman leader Baba Arroudj, inaugurated, Tuesday, in the province of Ain Temouchent “documents common Algerian-Turkish memory.”
Presiding the ceremony of inauguration of this work in the company of the ambassador of Turkey in Algeria, Mehmet Poroy, the minister underlined that this occasion is a historic moment, recalling that Ain Temouchent, which jealously and deeply preserves his memory, was the scene of his last fight against the Spanish occupant who tried to humiliate the Algerians.
“Five centuries after the death of Baba Arroudj, who fell on the field of honor in 1518, we pay tribute, today, to this personality with our Turkish friends and this initiative is a documentation of the shared memory between Algeria and Turkey, “said Azzeddine Mihoubi.
“Bejaia also celebrated the 500th anniversary of the arrival of the brothers Kheireddine and Baba Arroudj in the presence of the Algerian Navy named Baba Arroudj, “he added.
