Scholar and thinker Mohamed Salah Essidik honored


The scholar, specialized in Islamic Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), and Algerian thinker, Mohamed Salah Essidik, was honored, Tuesday in Constantine, in recognition of his services for the homeland and religion during a ceremony held after the Maghreb prayer at Emir Abdelkader Mosque.

On the sidelines of this ceremony, the imam of this mosque Youcef Allel told the APS, that this initiative, that took place on the sidelines of the celebration of the Mawlid Ennabaoui, aimed ” to make known one of the Algerian scholars and ulemas born in Algeria.

Initiated by the religious association of the Emir Abdelkader Mosque in collaboration with the Religious Affairs Directorate, the ceremony included speeches delivered by numerous historians and thinkers.

In this aspect, the historian Arezki Ferrad delivered a speech on Sheikh Essidik, in addition to the holding of an exhibition of the works of Sheikh Essidiki in the hall of the mosque.

Taking the floor, Cheikh Mohamed-Salah Essedik (93) recounted his career and the great moments he has experienced, including his meeting with the reformer Abdelhamid Benbadis and his activism during the War of liberation, urging young people  ‘to love their country’.

Born in 1925 in the village of Timizart Abizar (wilaya of Tizi Ouzou), Essidik was first taught by his father Sheikh Bashir Ait Seddik before pursuing his studies in Algiers and in 1946 he traveled to Tunis where he finished his studies at Al Zaytouna University in 1951.

Back home, he teached at zaouïa Sheikh Abderrahmane El-Illouli and published several articles before joining the Revolution from its onset.

He notably worked on the radio Sawt Ethaoura El Djazaïria (Voice of the Algerian revolution) which emitted from Tripoli (Libya) from the 1st of January 1958 until independence.

He has presented several programs on national television and radio and published articles in 36 national and foreign journals.

He is also the author of more than 130 books including ” Maqassid El Qur’an ” (Quran Visions), El Djazair bayn el-madhi oua el-hadhir (Algeria, yesterday and today), El Djazair baled ettahadi oua essomoud (Algeria, country of challenge and resistance) and Alamiyat el-islam oua akhlaqiyat rassoulih (The universality of Islam and the morality of its prophet).
