UNICEF hails Algeria’s “ongoing” commitment to rights of children

The United Nations Children and Education Fund (UNICEF) lauded the commitment of Algeria to constantly protecting children and ensuring their rights to education and health.

The representative of UNICEF in Algeria, Marc Lucet, noted in a statement to the APS, “the Algerian State’s continuous commitment to provide all children with protection and access to services, especially in the field of education, health and social care “, expressing his wish to see Algeria” share its experience with other countries in the region “.

Mr. Lucet said, on the occasion of the World Day of Children’s Rights, celebrated on November 20 of each year, that Algeria “is leader at the African level and in the MENA region (Middle East and North Africa ) in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and is one of the countries that have achieved the Millennium Development Goals, particularly in the area of ​​education “.

Referring to the program of cooperation with UNICEF for the period 2016-2020, the UN representative said that this cooperation covers elements that correspond to the priorities of Algeria in the field of children, including “the development of the early childhood”.

In order to highlight the progress made, particularly, for the benefit of children, the same interlocutor put forward the 6th National Multiple Indicator Survey (MICS6) on Population Health, launched by the Ministry of Health, Population and Hospital Reform, in collaboration with UNICEF.

The survey, which targets a sample of 31,000 families from different parts of the country, aims to highlight progress witnessed in Algeria.

The survey’s findings, to be announced next year, also concerns the various aspects related to access to health and education.

Other similar surveys were conducted in Algeria, including MICS1 in 1995, MICS 2 in 2000, MICS 3 in 2006 and MICS4 in 2013, the same official pointed out.
