Gas Exporting Countries Forum: Energy Minister Guitouni participates in symposium in Trinidad & Tobago

Minister of Energy Mustapha Guitouni participated Tuesday, in Trinidad and Tobago (Port of Spain), in a special symposium organized by the Gas Exporting Countries Forum in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Industries of Trinidad and Tobago.


Opened by the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. Keith Rowely, the symposium was organized, on Wednesday, in anticipation of the 20th GECF Ministerial Meeting in Port of Spain, said the Ministry of Energy in a statement.

During this panel, Mr. Guitouni highlighted two main challenges that the GECF member countries will jointly address.

In addition, the Minister of Energy has raised several constraints that slow the expansion of natural gas despite all its advantages and qualities.

The minister also addressed “the significant potential for improving the technical performance of natural gas, from production to the final consumer”.

Referring to Algeria’s efforts in the GECF, Mr Guitouni recalled the actions taken to promote gas and dialogue between producing and consuming countries: “We have always worked whenever possible in favor of ‘an approach that favors both consumers and producers.”


The GECF is an intergovernmental organization created at the 8th session of the Informal Forum of the same countries, held in Moscow in December 2008. It is currently composed of 12 member countries; Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Arab Emirates and Venezuela. Azerbaijan, Iraq, Kazakhstan, the Netherlands, Norway, Oman and Peru have observer status.
