Researchers of Galapagos Whale Shark Project realized a submarine ultrasound on a grown-up shark-whale female to know more about the mysterious reproduction of the species.
For the first time, scientists succeeded in realizing an ultrasound as well as a blood test, under the water, on a shark-whale. In the archipelago of the Galápagos, lived in the middle of the Pacific, the divers of Galapagos Whale Shark Project sounded a female 12 meters long.
Doctor Rui Matsumoto has declared that they were able to confirm the presence of follicles in ovaries without detecting whether the animal was in gestation. He added that Although they did not find tracks of embryos, to confirm the gestation, this is a major stage to discover how, where and when the sharks-whales can put low .This ultrasound is a first very important stage in the study of the reproduction at the sharks-whales.
