A female suicide bomber blew herself up in the centre of Tunisia’s capital, wounding at least nine and sparking panic in the street.
The woman detonated a suicide vest blew next to a police van and near a hotel and shopping centre in Tunis.
Eight police officers and a civilian were hurt in the explosion in Avenue Habib Bourguiba at about 1.50pm local time.
The apparent terror attack in front of the Hana International Hotel and the Municipal Theatre Hall sent bystanders running for their lives.
A witness reported an explosion on the central Habib Bourguiba avenue and police were seen cordoning off the area.
Ambulances could be heard rushing to the scene.
“I was in front of the theatre and heard a huge explosion and saw people fleeing,” witness Mohamed Ekbal bin Rajib told Reuters.
