Iron, steel industry: Algeria towards self-sufficiency and export by 2022

The major projects currently under way in the iron and steel industry would allow the country to achieve self-sufficiency in this area and even to export by 2022,” highlighted, on Sunday, in Algiers, Minister of Industry and Mining Youcef Yousfi.

“Algeria will achieve self-sufficiency in the iron and steel industry and even export by 2022 due to the major projects currently under way,” said the Minister during a conference-debate at the Forum of El Mujahid.

As long as industrial lands are concerned,  Mr. Yousfi pointed out that most investors prefer to settle in the north of the country “already saturated”, inviting them to move to the High Plateaus and the South.

“With the means of transport and logistics that currently exist in the High Plateaus and the south of the country, I would say that investments can be profitable,” said the Minister, recalling that the state has also decided to create 50 new industrial zones throughout 39 provinces for an overall area of 12,000 hectares and a cost of around 300,000 billion dinars.
The Minister said, in this regard, that seven (07) new industrial zones are being implemented, while the completion of the remaining 43 zones have been entrusted to Governors.
