President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) and Secretary General of the Polisario Front Brahim Ghali called, on Friday, the United Nations Security Council to enable MINURSO (UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara) to carry out its mission for which it was created, namely the organization of a referendum on self-determination for the Sahrawi people, reaffirming the need to put an end to the  procrastination and intransigence of the Moroccan occupier.

“We call on the Security Council to enable MINURSO to fulfill the mission for which it was created, namely the organization of a referendum on self-determination in Western Sahara, “said President Ghali in his opening remarks at the commemorative festivities of the 43rd anniversary of National Unity coinciding with October 12.

The Polisario Front SG also called for an end to Moroccan attempts to use Minurso as a “tool to legitimize an illegal military occupation”.

“The international community – through the UN General Assembly, its committees and the resolutions of the Security Council – has expressed its determination to preserve the legal character of the Saharawi question, being a question of decolonization that must be resolved, allowing the Saharawi people to exercise their right to independence, like all peoples, “added the Saharawi President.

“It is time to put an end to the suffering of the Saharawi people,” he said, calling once again to put an end to the intransigence of the Moroccan occupier.
