Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel held talks in New York with President and CEO of the International Crisis Group (ICG), Robert Malley, on the sidelines of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly.
In this context, the Minister reiterated Algeria’s position “for the promotion of political solutions based on dialogue and national reconciliation, without foreign interference and in respect for the sovereignty and integrity of States and the will of the people “.
He expressed Algeria’s efforts “to support the actors in Libya and Mali on the path of inclusive dialogue and national reconciliation “.
On the question of Western Sahara, Messahel reiterated Algeria’s position as a neighboring country in favor of the right to self-determination of the people of Western Sahara, in accordance with the relevant United Nations resolutions.
He also described the Algerian experience of de-radicalization and the fight against terrorism and violent extremism, “an experiment widely, nowadays, solicited at the international level”.
Finally, the Minister of Foreign Affairs recalled the Algerian initiative which made May 16 of every year the international day of living together in peace, “an initiative that is in line with Algeria’s constant commitment in favor of peace and international security “.
