The number of people killed in the terrorist incident perpetrated, on Saturday morning, in Iran’s southern city of Ahvaz, has reached 24, according to IRNA.
With the wounded in critical condition, the death toll is expected to rise, the source said.
In this aspect, up to 53 people were wounded in the incident and were taken to various hospitals in Ahvaz to be treated, the same source added.
The terror attack took place during the parade of military units which was held on the occasion of the beginning of the Sacred Defense Week
“Terrorists recruited, trained, armed & paid by a foreign regime have attacked Ahvaz. Children and journos among casualties. Iran holds regional terror sponsors and their US masters accountable for such attacks. Iran will respond swiftly and decisively in defense of Iranian lives,” tweeted Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif.
According to the Iranian Students’ News Agency (ISNA), Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) spokesman Ramezan Sharif said “The attack by some elements of al-Ahvaziya group which is fed by Saudi Arabia, aimed to overshadow the magnificence of the parade by the Iranian armed forces.”
