Minister of Solidarity, Family and Women Affairs Ghania Eddalia, in an address at a women’s forum in Saint Petersburg, Russia, emphasizes Algeria’s achievements in women’s rights as a result of the reforms initiated by President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika, the ministry said in a statement.

Speaking at the opening of the 2nd edition of the Eurasian Forum on Women, which took place from 19 to 20 September, the Minister delivered a speech in which she emphasized “the progress made in Algeria in women’s rights through the policy initiated by the President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika,” said the same source.

She also highlighted, in this forum, which devoted its 2nd edition to “sustainable development and security”, the important role played by Algerian women in the process of peace and national reconciliation during the black decade.

The main objective of the forum is to strengthen international cooperation, develop partnerships and communications to find new solutions for women’s empowerment and strengthen their role in achieving sustainable development goals.

The Minister also attended a workshop organized by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Industry and Trade and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) on the development of women’s entrepreneurship.

During this workshop, the focus was on the role of UNIDO as a global network for accessing women’s entrepreneurship projects in the market, investment and information and communication technologies.

The first session of this Forum, held in St. Petersburg in 2015, gave a strong impetus to the formation of a new agenda and new initiatives for the development of women.
