Purshasing Russian weapons: Algeria in hot seat, could face US sanctions

US could impose sanctions against Algeria for purchasing Russian military equipment as US has added new 33 Russian entities, with whom Algeria deals, to the CAATSA section 231 List of Specified Persons (LSP) for being a part of, or operating for or on behalf of, the defense or intelligence sectors of the Government of the Russian Federation.

In this aspect, US imposed sanctions, Thursday, against China’s military for purchasing Russian military equipment in a move to punish Moscow for many reasons, including its “interference” in the United States election processand its “unacceptable” behavior in eastern Ukraine, among others.
On the other hand, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Geng Shuang reacted, slamming this unfair decision, launching “solemn negotiation” with Washington.
“(The sanctions) have severely violated the basic norms of international relations and damaged the relations between the two countries and two militaries,” Geng said at a daily press conference.
“We strongly urge the US side to correct the mistakes immediately and revoke the so-called sanctions. Otherwise the US has to bear the consequences of it.”
For his part, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo added 33 names, either an entity or an individual, to this blacklist, bringing the total roster to 72 people. The sanctions are not imposed on small sales, such as spare parts and maintenance. They are applied for major purchases.
It is worth mntioning that Russia is considered as the world’s second largest weapons seller, after the US, and many of its clients, who buy weapons from it, are USA’s allies, namely; Algeria, Morocco,  the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Qatar, which may put USA in hot seat in dealing with such allies.
