Algeria-Germany: Possibility of creating Goethe Institute, issuing visas to Algerians to pursue studies in Germany discussed


Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia held, in Algiers on Monday, talks with Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Angela Merkel .

The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel, Minister of the Interior, Local Authorities and Regional Planning, Nourredine Bedoui, and the Minister of Industry and Mines Youcef Yousfi and the members of the delegation accompanying the German Chancellor.

The German official described the contents of the discussions she held with Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia as “very constructive”, stressing, in this connection, that Algeria and Germany maintain a “close partnership”, particularly, in the areas of vocational training, youth and culture.

In this sense, she mentioned the possibility of creating in Algeria a Goethe Institute and offer “the legal possibilities of issuing visas to young Algerians wishing to pursue their studies or training in Germany”.

In the field of defense, the German Chancellor said that the two countries have established a “close and structured cooperation in the field of security, including the fight against terrorism.”

Referring to the subject of clandestine migrants, Merkel welcomed Algeria’s “fruitful collaboration” in repatriating Algerian nationals in an irregular situation in Germany, renewing its “thanks” to the Algerian authorities.

Merkel has just started an official visit to Algeria at the invitation of the President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
The German chancellor was welcomed, upon her arrival in Houari-Boumediene International Airport, here by Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia, and members of the government.

Merkel was received by President Abdelaziz Bouteflika. Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia, Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel, Minister of the Interior, Local Authorities and National Planning Nourredine Bedoui, and Minister of Industry and Mining Youcef Yousfi were present at the audience.

This visit, part of the high level bilateral dialogue “is meant to reinforce the relations of friendship and cooperation that exist between Algeria and Germany, and which are significantly growing in all the fields, reflected in the numerous visits by the two countries’ senior officials.”
