German Chancellor Angela Merkel on an official visit to Algeria as of Monday

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, will pay, on Monday, an official visit to Algeria at the invitation of president of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

During this visit, the second of its kind after the one in 2008, the Chancellor will meet President Bouteflika and have talks with Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia.

In this aspect, Merkel will also hold a joint media conference with Ouyahia.

The visit is an opportunity to assess Algerian-German economic relations and further boost avenues of partnership.

Several industrial sectors in Algeria are of interest to German companies, particularly machinery industry, automotive sub-contracting, renewable energy, chemicals and the pharmaceutical industry.”

In the mechanical sector, Algeria and Germany are already linked by partnerships, such as the manufacturing in Algeria of Mercedes-Benz vehicles by the German group Daimler, the Société Nationale of Industrial Vehicles (SNVI), the National Defence Ministry and the Emirati group Aabar.

In total, more than 200 German companies from different sectors are currently operating in Algeria. In 2017, Germany was Algeria’s fourth largest source of imports at 3.2 billion US dollars.
