The body of the Algerian singer Rachid Taha, died, on the night of Wednesday to Thursday of a heart attack in his sleep at his Paris home, was repatriated to Oran, in the west of the country yesterday evening.
The body of the deceased, aged 59, was transferred to Mohamed Ben Ahmed Hospital in Sig, in the province of Mascara, his hometown.
He was welcomed by a large crowd, including some local artists and personalities.
The deceased will be buried, Today Friday, after Friday prayer.
His music was unique, mixing traditional Algerian rai music with electronic rock.
In the 1990s, Taha released a remixed version of the song Ya Rayah, a traditional Algerian song by Dahmane El Harrachi. The song hit the French music charts and launched Taha to international fame, reported the National.
