Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel, on Tuesday, deplored, at Arab League Foreign Ministers Council meeting on the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) held in Cairo, United States administration’s decision to stop its financial support to the UN agency.
“The support for the UNRWA, which was created following a United Nations General Assembly resolution, “implies a legal, a political and a moral responsibility to ensure that the Palestinian refugees enjoy their rights to a dignified life and benefit from social services, especially healthcare and education,” underlined Messahel.
In this aspect, the Minister urged all parties to assume their responsibilities and back
the UNRWA “through political and financial support.
He stressed that Algeria “tops the list of countries supporting the budget of the Palestinian Authority, to alleviate the sufferings of our brotherly Palestinian people”.
At the end, Messahel stressed that the Palestinian refugee issue “should be settled in accordance with the resolutions of international legality, mainly the UN General Assembly Resolution 194 on the right of return for (the Palestinian) refugees” to their homes and their land on which the State of Israel has been established in 1948,
