Algerian Ambassador to Baghdad has never been summoned

Algeria – The Iraqi media announced, yesterday Monday (September 10th), that the Algerian Ambassador to Baghdad had been summoned by the Iraqi authorities following the incident that took place at the Stadium Bologhine (Algiers) during the match between the USM Algiers and Iraqi Quwa al-Jawiya (Air Forces). The latter  withdrew in the 70 th minute, after songs glorifying Saddam Hussein.

According to our information, the Algerian Ambassador to Baghdad Abdelkader Benchaa has been on holiday in Algeria for two weeks. He, therefore, has not been summoned to the Iraqi Foreign Ministry.

For its part, the weekly Jeune Afrique, which contacted the Embassy of Algeria in Baghdad on Monday, reports that the chargé d’affaires of the Algerian mission had denied any summoning of the Ambassador by the authorities of Iraq.

“The ambassador was not summoned at the time I am talking to you, we have heard the news on the news websites,” said the chargé d’affaires of the Algerian Embassy in Iraq.
