FOCAC : Algeria’s adherence to New Silk Road to boost Algerian-Chinese partnership

Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia said Tuesday, in Beijing, that Algeria’s adherence to the Chinese initiative of the New Silk Road will give a fresh impetus and substance to Algerian-Chinese partnership.

“There is no doubt that Algeria’s adherence to the initiative of the new Silk Road will bring a stronger density to our cooperation and our partnership with China,” Ouyahia said in an address at the 3rd Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

Ouyahia, who represents at this summit, the President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, stressed that the trade between Algeria and China “exceed $ 9 billion per year, welcoming  the contribution of Chinese companies to the realization Algeria’s vast development programs exceed $ 10 billion each year. ”

In 2017, China’s exports to Algeria hit 8.3 billion U.S. dollars, representing 18.1 percent of  Algeria’s total imports, which stood at 45.95 billion dollars.

China and Algeria raised their bilateral relations to the highest level in 2014, the 55th anniversary of the establishment of China-Algerian diplomatic relations. Next year, both countries will celebrate the sixtieth anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations.
