Sonatrach provisionally awards USD 248 million LPG project to Italy’s Maire Tecnimont


Maire Tecnimont S.p.A’s main subsidiary Tecnimont S.p.A. has been provisionally awarded by the Direction Centrale Engineering & Project Management of SONATRACH an EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contract for the execution of the “LPG Train 4 – ZCINA Hassi Messaoud” project, according to a statement released by the company on Monday.


The project, to be implemented inside the existing ZCINA Facility, located in the Hassi Messaoud area, will be finalized within 30 months from the commencement date.

The Provisional Award of the USD 248 million contract, will be soon confirmed after finalization of the Contract Annexes with the client.

In this aspect, the formal contract signing is due to be held in September 2018.

The Project will include the implementation of a new train of 8 MMSm3 (Million Standard cubic meters) per day capacity of LPG and Condensate extraction from associated gas coming from the existing plants located nearby ZCINA facility outside the battery limits.

This project is an extension to the existing ZCINA LPG plant which operations have been started up from June 2013.

For his part, Pierroberto Folgiero, Maire Tecnimont Group Chief Executive Officer expressed proud for being awarded, expressing his company’s willingness to invade Algerian market.

The official considered this project as the first step of a long-lasting successful collaboration with State-run Sonatrach.

He commented: “After our recent awards this year in the refining segment, we are really proud of this achievement since it enables us to enter the promising Algerian market in the crucial gas treatment sector, where our Group matured a solid experience carrying out projects in other MENA countries in the recent past. We believe that this project can represent the first step of a long-lasting successful collaboration with a prestigious Client such as SONATRACH, also in consideration of the strategic relationship between our two Countries in the global energy supply scenario.”

It is worth mentioning that Maire Tecnimont S.p.A. operates in approximately 40 different countries, numbering around 50 operative companies and a workforce of about 5,500 employees, along with approximately 3,000 additional Electrical & Instrumentation professionals.
