General Manager of the Iranian News Agency (IRNA), Seyed Zia Hashemi, on Sunday, stressed the responsibility of both Algerian and Iranian media, in disseminating true news about their respective countries.
Hashemi called on journalists to work to provide the other party with true information and reports without any intermediary, before citing, for example, the way in which certain world news agencies treat events that occur in the world. Iranian society, which are reported by these media, according to Hashemi, “in a manner that is mistaken and distorted intentionally or not.”
The Iranian official said that information in both countries can provide fertile ground for the development of cultural and diplomatic ties as well as scientific, economic, commercial and cultural cooperation, which is supported by the existence of common will among the leaders of the two countries.
Referring to the differences in the Muslim world, particularly the problem of sectarianism or the cleavage between Sunnism and Shiism, the DG of the IRNA pointed out that the time for this kind of dispute is over since Sunnis and Shiites share the same fate and are both exposed to the same threats “from the Zionist entity and the religious extremism of Daesh and others”.
The question of commemorating differences in theory, jurisprudence and confession between Muslim groups in such circumstances remains “a decision that lacks wisdom and goes against the national and regional interests of Muslim countries”, he added.
Regarding his last visit to Algeria, which was his first trip abroad in his capacity as IRNA’s DG, Mr Hachémi valued “the great professional skills” that exist among APS journalists “.
He also highlighted the specificities that Algeria holds, either geographically or humanly.
And to add: “What caught my attention is the pride of the Algerian people for their revolution. What is important in my opinion is that 60 years after their victory, people still attach great importance to it “.
The Iranian official noted the “positive impression” of the Algerians towards his country Iran, in addition to the many points in common, like their position in favor of the Palestinian people and their hostility to the Zionist entity.
