340,000 marriages have been recorded, down 5% compared to 2016, while 65,637 cases of divorce have been recorded, a relative increase of 5.3% compared to 2016.
On the other hand, the Algerian population reached 42.2 million inhabitants on January 1, 2018 (against 41.3 million inhabitants on January 1, 2017 and 40.4 million on January 1, 2016).
1.06 million live births wre recorded in 2017; 541,189 boys and 518,325 girls, down 0.7% compared to 2016.
The first 5 provinces with the highest number of live births were Algiers (102,025 births), Sétif (53,328), Oran (41,285), Constantine (38,122) and Batna (36,808).
Since 1990, the Algerian population has grown from 25 million to 34.1 million in 2007 and 42.2 million as of 1 January 2018.
