Number of fixed, mobile internet subscribers increase by 6 mln to 34.5 mln in 2017


The number of subscribers to fixed and mobile Internet in Algeria reached 34.5 million in 2017 , an increase of more than six million from 28.5 million in 2016, says the head of the Council of Regulatory Authority of Post and Telecommunications, Mohamed Ahmed Nacer.

“The total number of subscribers to fixed and mobile internet has reached 34.625 million in 2017 against 28.551 million in 2016, an increase by 6.076 million (21 per cent), a development which shows the users’ interest in the high-speed Internet,” Ahmed Nacer told a media briefing here Monday on the post and telecommunication sector developments in 2017.

Of the 34.625 million Internet subscribers, 31.460 million subscribed to mobile Internet and 3.168 million to fixed Internet, he said.

The official disclosed that 90.85 per cent of subscribers used mobile networks while 9.15 per cent are connected to fixed networks, noting that this trend is similar to the international norm.
