Minister of Post, Telecommunications, Technologies and Digital Technologies, Houda Imane Feraoun, has disclosed that the country will be connected to two new fiber-optic submarine cables before the end of this year.
The first one will connect Oran and Algiers to Spain while the second will connect Annaba in the northeastern country of the country to several countries from the Americas to Asia.
The minister revealed this when responding to questions from members of the Council of the Nation, the upper chamber of the Algerian parliament here Tuesday after he had presented a Bill defining the general rules relating to the Post Office and telecommunications service.
Work on the connections “could have been the main cause for slower Internet connections and other problems encountered during maintenance on one of the existing cables”.
“Investment in this field is ongoing. We hope to have the new cables ready within the set deadlines,” said the Minister.
