President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika, on Monday in Algiers, inaugurated Ketchaoua Mosque after renovation.
The inauguration ceremony took place in the presence of Minister of the Interior, Local Authorities and National Planning Noureddine Bedoui, Minister of Housing, Urban Planning and the City, Abdelwahid Temmar, Minister of Religious Affairs and Waqfs Mohamed Aissa, Minister of Public Works and Transport Abdelghani Zaalane, Minister of Culture Azeddine Mihoubi, and Governor of Algiers Abdelkader Zoukh.
Located at the entrance of Algiers Casbah, Ketchaoua Mosque is considered as a historical monument inscribed on UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list.
Closed in 2008 after its degradation due to the 2003 quake, the mosque has been renovated by the Turkish Agency of Coordination and Cooperation (TIKA) with the contribution of Algerian firms and archaeologists, as part of the agreement signed in September 2013 by the Algerian and Turkish authorities.
