Among the detainees are five miners and activist Nihal Ahbadh after being arrested Sunday in the city of Imzouren, said the same source.

The city of Al Hoceima and surrounding areas, including Imezouren, in northern Morocco, has been the scene of a protest movement. The residents are asking that their province be provided with a university, a hospital and investments to create jobs for unemployed youth.

The movement began on 28 October after the death of a young fish merchant, Mouhcine Fikri, who was crushed by a dumpster while trying to prevent the destruction of his goods seized by the police.
