President of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) and Secretary General of the Polisario Front Brahim Ghali has stressed the failure of the Kingdom of Morocco in their attempt to compromise Western Sahara’s membership of the African Union (AU).

Speaking at the closing session of a meeting extended to secretaries and political commissars of the Polisario Front, the President of the Republic said Morocco’s scheme to join the African Union in order to compromise SADR’s membership of the (African Union) and to prevent (the pan-African organization) from playing its role in the process of decolonization of the last colony in Africa has been a shameful failure.

The position of SADR, as a founding member, has been further strengthened since the adherence of Morocco to the AU, alongside the Saharawi State, which has played an effective part in African Union partnership summits with foreign countries and unions, including Japan in Maputo (August 2017) and the European Union in Abidjan last November, said the President of the Republic.

In “other consultative and specialized meetings Morocco has found itself isolated in the face of the determination of the African countries and their solidarity with the SADR, which is today a symbol of Africans’ history and struggle for freedom and dignity.”

“The decisions of the 30th African Summit, held last January, were a clear message of Africans’ discontent with Morocco’s prevarications and violation of African and international legality,” the President of the Republic said.

He added that the African leaders have always reiterated their “AU’s commitment to fully playing their role in the peaceful settlement of the conflict.”
