The Algerian National Union of Community Pharmacists (SNAPO) warned Monday in Algiers against the use of self-medication that could expose the health of citizens in many cases to “complications and dangerous side effects.”

Speaking at the 11th edition of the Pharmaceutical Days dedicated to self-medication, SNAPO President Dr Messaoud Belambria said that of the 4300 medicines marketed in Algeria, around 1500 are concerned with self-medication, which represents – according to him- the third of the medicines registered in the national nomenclature, warning against this kind of practices that “often exposes the citizen’s health to danger”.
