SADR: Canary fishermen call on Spain, EU to comply with CJEU’s decision

The Canarian Fishermen’s Federation “Canarios” called on the Spanish government and the European Union to comply with the decision of the European Court of Justice (ECJ) which has made it clear that the EU-Morocco fisheries agreement is not applicable to Western Sahara.

The Federation “Canarios” emphasized, in a statement, that “the Polisario front expressed its willingnes to reach agreements with companies interested in the development of the economic activities on the territory.

In this aspect, “Canarios” pointed out that fisheries agreement negotiated with the Polisario Front will ensure “stability and adequate legal support for our presence in the waters of Western Sahara”.

Earlier, in its ruling, the ECJ stated that the EU-Morocco pact “is valid in so far as it is not applicable to Western Sahara and its adjacent waters.
