The president of the national body promoting health and research development, Professor Mustapha Khiati said, Thursday in Mostaganem, that “one in 250 children in Algeria” is suffering from celiac disease or allergy wheat.

Speaking at a scientific workshop on this theme, held at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Mostaganem, Prof Khiati pointed out that a large number of cases of celiac disease are not being screened early; which worsens the situation of people with adulthood who are exposed to diabetes and cancer.

This gluten-sensitive disease found in wheat and barley causes 10% of cancer cases in children and adults, he added.
