The Minister of Public Works and Transport, Mr. Abdelghani Zaalane, gave Monday in Algiers the kickoff of the 5th edition of the international exhibition of transport, logistics and mobility “Algeria infrastructure 2018”.

This economic event, which is held from 12 to 14 February at the Palais es expos (Pins maritimes), brings together a hundred of national and foreign exhibitors from the Netherlands (guest of honor), South Africa, China , France and Switzerland.

National companies in the transport sector and transport infrastructure were also present at the show, such as the Algiers Metro Company (EMA), the National Railway Transport Company (SNTF), the Airport Enterprise Algiers, the public urban and suburban transport establishment (ETUSA) and the respective port companies of Ghazaouet, Mostaganem, Oran, and Tenes.

During a press briefing after the inauguration of the fair with the Dutch ambassador in Algiers, the minister said that transport and logistics are “vital” sectors, “having a” decisive role “in the establishment of economic dynamics.

The development of these two components today, he added, has contributed to the improvement of Algeria’s ranking in the field of logistics, thanks to some important projects within the framework of the program of the President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

According to him, these projects include the modernization and expansion of commercial ports, the connection of ports to means of transport, the connection of industrial zones and industrial areas and many production companies to rail networks as well as the realization of freight centers at airports.

“These projects, among others, are aimed at achieving the objectives set by the Ministry, namely; the reduction of logistics costs by 35% to 15% by 2025,” he said.

On the other hand, the strengthening of logistics services and the development of air and sea transport and their interactions will have a positive impact on the cost of production of goods and services and the conditions of their transport and distribution, he added.

The public works and transport sector is pursuing its program through the reinforcement and upgrading of port infrastructures in particular, with the launch of the El Hamdania Port Center project and its logistic platform and 3 industrial zones, among others, argued Mr Zaalane.

He also cited the completion of development projects for container stations at Algiers, Oran, Mostaganem, Djendjen and Annaba.

It should be noted that 4,000 professional visitors looking for exchange and partnership opportunities are expected at this economic event.

In addition, conferences on related topics in the fields of transport and logistics will be held on the sidelines of the event, namely conferences on “rail transport”, “maritime transport and logistics” and “transport and logistics”.
