The storage capacity of dams nationwide will reach 8.6 billion m3 soon, said Minister of Water Resources Hocine Necib Sunday in Laghouat (450-km south of Algiers).

“It is expected that the Beni-Slimane (Medea) dam will soon be in service,” the minister told the press at the end of his working visit to the wilaya.

To enable the maintenance of these hydric works, a strategy based on prevention has been adopted through the intensification of the afforestation and deslocation actions, knowing that three Algerian-made dredges will be put into operation for this purpose before the end of the  first semester  of the year in progress, “said Necib.

The Minister of Water Resources also announced the completion, at the end of 2019, of the operation of linking the water management to the public companies of the sector through 574 municipalities which do not have one, a procedure currently being prepared in coordination with the Ministry of the Interior, Local Assemblies and Regional Planning.
