19 deaths nationwide, from Seasonal flu


Dr Fawzi Derrar, from Algiers Pasteur Institute, said, Monday, that nineteen people died from seasonal flu (H1N1) nationwide, especially in the centre and east of the country.

“We were expecting an epidemic peak during the month of January and this has been the case since the second half of this year. Nowadays, the National Reference Center for Influenza has recorded 19 deaths, the last case dates back to 31 January and concerned a sexagenarian from Bord Bou Arréridj”, Derrar told “APS”.

The same official said, in the main context, that all these deaths were caused by the subtype of seasonal influenza, H1N1, and are among the 190 “severe” cases that required hospitalization, mainly in the center and east of the country.
