For her debut film ”Les Bienheureux”, the young Algerian filmmaker, Sofia Djama, was able to win the public prize at the ceremony of the 19th edition of the Black Movie, in Geneva.
The director’s first film examines, through characters from two different generations, the wounds still open following Algeria’s black decade.

This 19th edition of Black Movie has shown 121 films from some 50 countries. Highly esteemed sections dedicated to queer films and resistant women were particularly appreciated by spectators, the organizers said, Sunday, in a statement.
Black Movie also proposed meetings with 24 filmmakers to debate with the public. The next edition, which will take place from January 18 to 27, 2019, will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Festival.
