The Algerian Minister of Information has cancelled licences previously granted to businessmen and media investors in Algeria to establish seven new private TV channels.

The state’s Official, Gazette, reported, on 17 November, that the ministry has repealed a decision it issued, on 31 July, which allowed candidates to apply to licences to launch new private TV channels.

Meanwhile, the ministerial instructions did not provide further details or reasons for the cancellations.

Algerian researcher, Yamin Boudhan, said In this context that the decision came because the ministry had not properly studied the conditions which it had set out to grant licences, these now have to be amended.

Therefore, the ministry, he explained, should clarify the situation to the investors.
