Algerian Football Federation (FAF) vice-president, Bachir Ould Zmirli, has announced, on Friday, the possibility of entrusting the national selection, to the former star of the Greens “Rabah Madjer”, replacing the Spanish, Lucas Alcaraz, whose departure was made amicably after six months of collaboration.
“Rabah Madjer is one of the technicians who can lead the technical team of the national team, he is a coach who is capable of leading the selection, through his experience as a player and coach, and we have also considered the services of Djamel Belmadi, I think it’s time to focus on the local track, “said Ould Zmirli on national radio.
Alcaraz, the Andalusian technician has paid the dull face of the Greens, eliminated without glory in the qualifications of the 2018 World Cup, the final phase of which will take place in Russia.
However, at the last meeting of its Federal Bureau held on Sunday September 24th, the FAF renewed its confidence in the technical staff of the selection under the leadership of Alcaraz at least until the end of the campaign of the 2018 World Cup, scheduled for next November.
“We have cancelled the idea of designating an interim technical staff just to lead the next game against Nigeria on November 10. The next coach will be designated next week with the preparation of this last match of the world qualifiers” , added Ould Zmirli, also in charge of the National Selection Monitoring Committee.
Rabah Majder (58 years old), former national team player (86 caps) has two passes on the Green Bench in 1999 and then between 2001 and 2002, leading Algeria in the final of the African Cup of Nations (CAN-2002) nations held in Mali.
Former NA Hussein-Dey (League 1 / Algeria) and FC Porto (Div.1 / Portugal) have led Algeria 9 times with a record of 2 wins, 3 draws, and 4 defeats.
