Algeria: Several prohibited products seized by police- statement


Last week, the elements of national security have carried out several raids targeting black spots and suspicious locations, that resulted in arrests and the seizure of quantities of prohibited products and weapons, according to a statement, issued on Tuesday, by the communication unit of the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).

The operations, which were carried out, last weekend in the provinces of Algiers, Skikda, Ouargla and Saida resulted in the seizure of 923 psychotropic tablets, 169 alcoholic beverages, 40 grams of treated hashish, 33 white weapons, and the arrest of 47 suspects aged between 20 and 40 years of age; most of them are accused in cases, involving possession of drugs, weapons and alcoholic beverages without authorization.

As part of its fight against the illegal sale, particularly of alcoholic beverages, elements of the judicial police of Khenchla province seized more than 1100 units.

Acting on the basis of information on the traffic of a commercial vehicle loaded with a considerable quantity of alcoholic beverages, the elements of the mobile brigade of the Judicial Police in Oued Rechach recovered, after having searched the vehicle, 1116 units of alcoholic beverages intended for sale on the black market, the statement said.

In a separate operation, the national security forces in the province of Setif seized 15 quintals of counterfeit tobacco.

The operation followed exploitation by the security police of the daira of Salah-Bey which comes under the security of Setif province, reliable information indicating the transport by one of the suspects of a considerable amount of counterfeit tobacco aboard a commercial vehicle that was intercepted at the southern entrance of the city.

The suspect, who was also the driver of the vehicle in question and transported 15 quintals of counterfeit tobacco, was transferred to the headquarters in order to complete the investigation procedures.

This operation is part of the steps taken by the police forces to curb crime in all its forms and to combat professionals, related in such commercial activities.

The police forces of Khenchela and Tlemcen seized a large quantity of alcoholic beverages estimated at 4,233 units of different volumes without invoicing and also arrested the suspect. The first operation was carried out following information received by the Khenchela police, according to which a suspect was engaged in the illegal sale of alcoholic beverages in his home. After obtaining a search warrant, the police forces of the “Kais” daira in the same provinces, moved to the place and seized 4,255 units of liquor of various volumes without authorization and arrested the suspect.

The second operation dates back to last Saturday (23 September), when an attempt to smuggle a quantity of alcoholic beverages in a vehicle was defeated. The 50-year-old suspect, who was the owner of the vehicle and found to be a pick-up from the vehicle, was carrying a quantity of 108 alcoholic beverages totaling 54,000.00 DA and was seized by the following.

After the investigations were completed, judicial files were filed against the defendant and were submitted to the competent courts, the statement added.

The DGSN, which remains mobilized throughout its units throughout the national territory in order to face any attempt to protect the safety of citizens and their property, wishes to recall that a free toll-free number (15 48) and an emergency number (17) have been placed at the service of the citizens with a view to reporting any act contrary to the law.
