“Ikbal” Algeria today through photo exhibited in Paris

Ikbal photo exhibition in Paris

The photo exhibition Ikbal (Arrivals), which focuses on various aspects of the daily life of Algerians, was inaugurated Tuesday evening at Cité internationale des arts, in the presence of a large number of visitors.

A very rich exhibition of expressions, already presented at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Algiers (MAMA) from 13 May to 13 July 2017, will last until 4 November. It is a co-production with the Algerian Agency for Cultural Radiation (AARC) and the French Institute of Algeria, and in partnership with the International City of Arts. It is part of the friendship and cooperation agreement signed between the City of Paris and the wilaya of Algiers in 2003 and renewed in 2016.

Ikbal / Arrivals, offers visitors a real panorama of the young Algerian photography.

A total of 400 photos, the majority of which are in black and white, are on display to tell the lives of Algerians, urban or rural, at home or outside, in their neighborhoods or stadiums.

Several facets of everyday life are presented crully to the visitors who came to discover a lot of Algeria.

In breaking with the traditional classification of genres, these images overturn the distance between the photographer and his subject. Here the human presence, the bodies in action or the traces left by their passage are conductive threads that could link each series.

This photographer clarified, in a text distributed to the press, that it is essential that Algeria, like many other countries across the African continent, is also told, described, photographed by the Algerians themselves.

Born in Algeria, the twenty photographers who participate in this exhibition are between 20 and 30 years old and tell their iconographic works on the various subjects touching the news by immortalizing life around the city, the rural world and social problems.
