Legislatives 2017: EU’s delegation to Algeria responds to HIISE President’s accusations

The Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Algeria, has responded the statement, issued by the President of the Independent Electoral Supervisory Authority (HIISE), Abdelwahab Derbal, on Monday, in which the mission report of electoral expertise to be followed by the EU to follow the parliamentary elections of May 4th was not transmitted through diplomatic voices.

“Following the publication in some newspapers published on Tuesday, August 29th 2017, of information suggesting that the report of the electoral appraisal mission carried out by the European Union to follow the legislative elections of 4 May last has not been transmitted the EU Delegation to Algeria, wishes to make it clear that the report was officially submitted to the Charge d’affaires of the Algerian Embassy in Brussels on June 29th, immediately following the finalization of the report ” , said the statement of the EU Delegation in Algeria.

“The EU Delegation stressed that the Algerian authorities have wished the presence of the electoral experts’ mission for a gradual improvement of the electoral system, which was set up following the revision of the Constitution and granted them a very great autonomy in their work “, added the statement.

“The EU Delegation welcomed this kind of confidence. It considered that the experts’ report has been drawn up in this constructive spirit and that its recommendations lay the groundwork for possible cooperation between the EU and Algeria in this field “, concluded the Delegation in its statement.
