Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has accused on Monday, the German politicians of populism, after German Chancellor “Angela Merkel” said she would seek to end negotiations on Ankara’s accession to the European Union.

However, the Turkish President added that he hoped that tense relations between both countries could improve.

“We hope the end of the problematic context that has made Turkish-German relations the victim of this narrow political horizon,” said Erdogan’s spokesman “Ibrahim Kalin” on his official Twitter account.

Ms Merkel made the comments on Turkey, an apparent change in its position on Ankara’s accession to the EU, in a televised debate on Sunday, scheduled for 24 September, before the German elections.
