Algeria: Fattening of bluefin tuna launched


Algeria has recently obtained the agreement of the International Commission for Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) for the establishment of three tuna fattening farms on the national territory. The Fisheries sector has officially launched feasibility studies to launch this activity, said an official at the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries.

In a statement to the APS, Fisheries General Director, Hamouche Taha, announced the official start of preparations for the launch of this activity during blue fin tuna fishery by 2018.

The Directorate of Fisheries is currently working to encourage investors to engage in this activity, says the same official who added that the sector has begun to contact investors whose records are registered at the management level.

As for the processing industry of this resource Mr. Hamouche explained that “the sector is open to all economic operators wishing to embark on this field”.
