The African Union (AU) condemned the terrorist attack on Thursday in Barcelona (Spain), calling on the international community to “continue its efforts to fight violent extremism,” AU’s statement said on Sunday.
The president of the AU Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, has strongly condemned the terrorist attack on the tourist artery of Las Ramblas in Barcelona, which killed 13 people and injured about 100 ones, the statement said.
The President of the AU Commission extended his heartfelt condolences to families of the victims, and wished the victims a speedy recovery. He also expressed the solidarity of the AU with the Spanish population and government.
Recalling that this new attack “once again highlights the insidious threat posed by terrorism to all regions and countries of the world”, the President called on the international community to “continue its efforts to combat extremism violent”.
He stressed that Spain was a “crucial partner” of AU in the region, stressing “the important contribution it has made in recent years to the AU’s efforts to prevent and combat violent extremism”.
