Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has been elected for a second five-year term; winning 54.27 percent of the vote, against 44.74 percent of his main opponent Raila Odinga, the Electoral Commission said on Friday.

“I therefore wish to declare Uhuru Kenyatta (…) President-elect,” said Commission President Wafula Chebukati.

According to the final results of the IEBC, Mr. Kenyatta was credited with 8,203,290 votes, against 6,762,224 for Mr. Odinga, candidate of the opposition Coalition, the “National Super Alliance”.

“There is no need to resort to violence,” President Kenyatta said after winning the vote, calling for “unity”, while the opposition contested the results and denounced massive fraud.
