Yacine Brahimi expressed optimism that Algeria have learned from their mistakes at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations as they begin their quest for the 2019 tournament in Cameroon, African Football reported.
The Fennec Foxes were eliminated from the continental tournament in Gabon in the group stage and soon bid farewell to coach Georges Leekens.
In his stead, Lucas Alcaraz has taken over the North African side, who will begin their Group D qualifiers for the 2019 tournament with a match at home to Togo on Sunday night.
“Obviously, even if it is past, we have reviewed our previous games. It is always useful to analyse what we have done,” Brahimi told reporters ahead of the match in Blida.
“And we realise we missed things. We must learn from our mistakes. Now it is clear that we have to look to the future. We must raise our head and our level. That’s why we are 100 percent focused on this match.”
It will be the first competitive game in charge for Alcaraz, who was appointed in April.
“I’m sure he will bring us many good things to the team,” Brahimi said of the new coach, whom he played under at Granada.
“Winning is a permanent goal for us. It is always reassuring to start a competition well. We will do everything to win in this first match of the qualifiers against Togo.”
