The short film “Trip of Keltoum,” the latest work of filmmaker Anis Djaad, will participate in the official competition of the 6th Arab Cinema Festival of Brussels “Southern Aflam” in Belgium, scheduled from 26 to 29 September , said the film’s team , APS reported.
Released in 2016, “Le voyage de Keltoum” is the third work of the director after the release in 2014 of “Passage à niveau”, which won double prize at the Short Film Festival Maghrebin in Oujda (Morocco), and in 2012 “Le hublot” also awarded the last Jca (Film Days of Algiers).
The work takes an atypical approach to the return to the roots of immigrants, through the history of Keltoum, which is obliged, in spite of great financial difficulties, to realize the wishes of her dying sister to go back to places that she considers sacred.
This promise confronts Keltoum with her own social misery, her family, the modest conditions and the obligation to fulfill the last wishes of her late sister.
The film was also selected in the official competition of the 25th Panafrican Festival of Cinema and Television in Ouagadougou (Fespaco), the 27th Festival of African, Asian and Latin Cinema in Milan, Italy, and the 6th Festival of African film of Luxor (Egypt).
“Keltoum’s Journey” was awarded the Best Female Prize in the 6th Maghreb Film Festival in Oujda, a distinction awarded to Franco-Lebanese actress Soraya Baghdadia.
