Algeria celebrates Africa Day

The Africa Day was celebrated,  Thursday in Algiers, on the occasion of the 54th anniversary of the creation of the Organization of African Unity, in the presence of Chairman of the Constitutional Council Mourad Medelci, and outgoing Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra, the newly-appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdelkader Messahel and members of the Government and the diplomatic corps accredited in Algiers, APS reported.


In his opening remarks, Mr Lamamra said that “the celebration of this event is part of a well-established tradition in Africa and reflects the commitment of our countries towards the values ​​and ideals of OAU.

In this aspect, Cameroon’s ambassador, Claude Joesph M`Bafou noted in his speech “the leading role”  played by Algeria to implement  peace and security in Africa and its efforts exerted in boosting economy in  the continent.

The official added that Algeria has organized several events regarding  Africa in the year 2017, including the African Investment and Business Forum and the  first meeting of the  GA of AFRIPOL.

Mr M`Bafou also stressed on sustainable development in Africa, which recorded a growth of + 5%, calling for continued efforts to make Africa an example of development.

The celebration wrapped up  by organizing a musical concert dedicated to Africa.
