Algeria will host a business forum on June 13 devoted to investment in renewable energies, as part of a support programme by the European Union, said director of Cooperation with the European Union at the ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ali Mokrani, APS reported.
“This program has already been launched and contracts are already identified and mobilized. After its validation on March 13 in Brussels at the political level, it is now operationally implemented,” Mokrani said. “This is a first pilot program that will strengthen the capacity of the Ministry of Energy in its strategy for the development of renewable energies and energy efficiency,” he said. “Algeria will host on June 13 a business forum on REN and will kick off preparation for the launch of the renewable program of 4,000 megawatts,” Mokrani said.
“We have begun the realization of this project to allow the execution of the Algerian strategy to get out of the dependence of traditional energies based on oil and move towards the ENR. Algeria has set goals that target the national market, the European partner and also Africa, “he also argued. Through this project, it will be necessary to create a dynamic contacts between the Algerian and European companies, argues Mokrani who wishes that the business forum on the ENR between Algeria and the EU of June next year will be the ” opportunity to forge partnerships in the context of investments in renewable energies.
“We are in the strategic dialogue of high political level and also in the operational segment and concretization of this Algeria-EU energy partnership,” he added. As a reminder, the Algerian project called Atlas 1 with an overall capacity of 4,050 megawatts, divided into three lots of 1,350 megawatts each in photovoltaic solar energy, will be the subject of a call for tenders. The European support program for ENRs, adopted in 2016 under the European Neighborhood Policy Instrument (2014-2020), aims to support national authorities in the review and development of favorable institutional, policy and regulatory arrangements to implement sustainable energy policies through the deployment of renewable energies and energy efficiency. It also aims to contribute to facilitating medium- and long-term private investment in renewable energy and energy efficiency projects, as well as to strengthen the technical and management capacity of the institutions in this field.
