World Economic Forum on MENA region kicks off in Jordan

The World Economic Forum on the Middle East and North Africa region kicked off, Friday at the Dead Sea (Jordan), with the participation of several leaders, top officials, businessmen and representatives of international organizations of more than 50 countries, APS reported.

The Minister of Industry and Mines, Abdesselam Bouchouareb, who represents the President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, will work on the energy transition and the stimulation of inclusive growth in the MENA region.

The minister will also have,  on the sidelines of the forum,  talks with political leaders and economic operators interested in investing in Algeria.

The World Economic Forum, which will officially begin on Saturday, will provide a platform for exchanges on the challenges and prospects of the MENA region, through cooperation between the public and private sectors.

It is also an opportunity  to study the impact of the fourth industrial revolution, a new global economic era resulting from the convergence of digital information and technological advances in various economic sectors offering great opportunities in this field.

This global meeting aims to find political solutions to ensure the stability of the region through technological development and encouragement of innovation to stimulate inclusive growth in the MENA region.

According to the organizers, this forum will be marked by the launch of the Investment Partnership for Sustainable Development initiative in the MENA region, in partnership with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), focused on development of infrastructure in the region.

The last meeting of this forum was held in May 2015 in collaboration with King Abdullah Al-Thani’s fund for development. The forum was created in 1971 in Cologny in Geneva (Switzerland) by businessman Klaus Schwab.
